About

Tinyans is a house of writing instruments and desk tools — fountain pens, rollerballs and ballpoints in solid brass and copper, and the objects that belong around them: drawing instruments in brass and steel, trays, notebook chassis, a glass paperweight or two.

The collection is built on standards, not seasons. The nibs and refills follow the established German patterns — Schmidt nibs, converters and refills, international-standard cartridges — so anything you buy here can be fed from any good stationer's shelf, anywhere. The metals are what they appear to be: solid brass, solid copper, steel. Weights and dimensions are printed on every product page, because a pen is a thing you hold, and 46 grams feels different from 26.

At the top of the range sit the statement pieces: foil-leaf pens finished by hand in a traditional Japanese gold-foil technique, and pens inlaid with hand-chiselled gilt-copper orchids and dragons by a metalwork workshop in Nagoya, Japan, founded around 1920. They take longer to make, they cost what they cost, and their pages say exactly what is in them.

Uncoated brass darkens with handling; lacquered brass wears at the edges and shows the metal beneath. We describe that plainly on every page rather than dressing it up — it is what the material does, and many people buy brass for precisely that reason.
